This April marks a significant milestone for Devon Farm Kitchen as we celebrate four years of delivering delicious, handcrafted frozen meals across South Devon. Since we began in 2021, our mission has been clear: to provide nutritious, locally sourced meals while championing sustainability and supporting our community. Fast forward four years, and we are winning awards for what we set out to do!
A Commitment to Sustainability
From the outset, sustainability has been at the heart of our operations. We pioneered the use of reusable ceramic crockery for our meal deliveries, eliminating the need for single-use plastics. These ceramic dishes are collected, sanitised, and reused, creating a closed-loop system that significantly reduces waste.
“While our ceramic plates and bowls may initially be more costly to us than other more conventional forms of packaging such as plastic trays, they can be re-used time and time again, so in the long run our investment pays off. The clay for our ceramics is sourced locally in Cornwall, and the outer cardboard packaging that houses each plate and bowl is 100% recyclable, carbon neutral and compostable. Our model of sustainability is a key selling point for our meals: it makes for happy customers and a greener planet!”
Our commitment extends beyond packaging. We source ingredients locally, reducing food miles and supporting Devon's agricultural community. By partnering with local farmers and suppliers, we ensure that our meals are not only fresh and flavorful but also environmentally responsible.
In recognition of our efforts, we were honored with the Sustainability Pioneer Award at the Food Drink Devon Awards 2024. This accolade reflects our dedication to eco-friendly practices and our role as a leader in sustainable food delivery.
Culinary Excellence Recognised
Our passion for creating 'deliciously satisfying' frozen meals has not gone unnoticed. Over the past four years, we've received numerous accolades for our culinary offerings. Notably, we were named Best Online Retailer at the Food Drink Devon Awards 2023, highlighting our commitment to providing a seamless and convenient customer experience.
Our dishes have also earned praise at the Taste of the West Awards. In 2024, our Navarin of Lamb and Chocolate and Walnut Pudding each received silver awards, while in 2023, our Lancashire Hotpot and Lemon Curd Sponge Pudding were awarded gold. These honors underscore our dedication to quality and flavour in every meal we prepare.
